Our Curriculum

Our Curriculum

Students of NCBIS graduate at the age of 18 as confident, independent, and resilient young adults. This is the result of their journey through our educational programme. We create the conditions for our students to flourish. This means not only achieving the excellent examination results but also acquiring the skills needed to thrive in the wider world. Whether it is in the classroom, on the sports field, on the stage or while engaging in community service projects, our students receive an all-round education designed to help them become successful global citizens.

Our Secondary School curriculum instils in our students with an abiding passion for our global scientific, linguistic, and cultural heritage. Students are encouraged to pursue a diversity of courses and extend themselves beyond their comfort zone. They graduate empowered with the knowledge, skills and independence of mind that will make them effective and responsible leaders in the future. Our Year 7, 8 and Year 9 students are taught an adapted British Curriculum that is assessed against the UK Government National Curriculum Age Related Expectations. These assessment grids allow our teachers to accurately assess students and help prepare them for further study in our upper years.

Year 10 and Year 11 students work toward the GCSE/IGCSE examination qualifications. This provides them with a comprehensive mix of core subjects, such as English, mathematics and science along with options in the humanities, computer science, languages, the arts and physical education.

Sixth Form students (Year 12 and Year 13) study either the UK A Levels or the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP). These qualifications are considered world leading for university entrance qualifications and incorporates academics with research projects and community service. A great deal of guidance, advice and information is given to both students and parents to facilitate this decision but ultimately students are free to choose the appropriate programme of study for them. When our students complete A Levels or IBDP, they will be more mature, capable and responsible young adults equipped with all the tools they need to excel in higher education and on their future career paths.

NCBIS is whole-heartedly committed to this twin-track Sixth Form curriculum, and both pathways are academically rigorous, internationally recognised and valued by universities and employers. Neither is inherently more or less difficult nor more suited to strong or weak students. Both are fully linear, and students should therefore choose the form of education to which they are best suited.
