As we gear up for the end of term two and the excitement of upcoming travels, it’s essential to prioritise the safety of your personal data. Drawing from the insightful discussions during our IT Director Parent Tech Bytes, I’m thrilled to share some friendly tips to help you maintain healthy tech habits while on the go. 1. Avoid Public Wi-Fi: I encourage you to refrain from using public Wi-Fi networks as they pose a significant risk for your data to be compromised. Instead, consider using your mobile data.
2. Back Up Your Devices: Before embarking on your travels, it is essential to back up the data on your devices. This precaution will ensure that your information remains secure even if your devices are lost or stolen during your journey.
3. Secure Luggage Tags and Boarding Passes: It is important not to discard your luggage tags and boarding passes carelessly. Each barcode on these documents contains personal data linked to it. I recommend taking them home and using a VOID stamp to invalidate the barcode before disposing of them.
4. Use a VPN: Utilise a reputable VPN service to safeguard your internet activities, especially when accessing sensitive information or conducting financial transactions while traveling.
5. Protect Your Personal Documents: Consider using RFID-blocking sleeves or wallets for your credit cards and passports to prevent radio frequency identification (RFID) theft while on the move.
