Our External Results and Destinations

NCBIS offers the following external examinations:

IGCSE

A Levels

International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme

The International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) is a globally recognised qualification that provides a strong foundation for further academic pathways, including A-levels, International Baccalaureate (IB), and other pre-university programs.

In addition to the attainment grades in each of these exams we also use GL data to calculate our Value Added (the difference between what students are expected to get and what they actually get).

IGCSE

Taken by students in Year 11

At NCBIS, we offer IGCSE exams through two leading examination boards: Pearson Edexcel and Cambridge International Education. These exams evaluate students across a range of subjects, balancing coursework with final examinations.

A key feature of the IGCSE is the 9–1 grading system, where 9 represents the highest level of achievement, offering more differentiation among top-performing students than the traditional A*-G grades. This system ensures clearer insight into student performance, with grades 9–7 broadly aligning with A*/A grades and grade 4 considered a standard pass (equivalent to a C grade).

Our GCSE outcomes are excellent (results below). We consistently achieve well above the UK national averages giving them the best chance of success in our Sixth Form – where they complete International A Levels (from 2025) or the IBDP.

In Year 12 and Year 13 students have the option to follow either Pearson International AS and A Levels or the IB Diploma Programme.

International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP)

Taken by students in Year 13

The IBDP grading system uses grades from 7-1, with 7 representing the highest level of achievement.

Between 2016-2024, on average, 93% of IB students achieved the Diploma at the school with an average score of between 30 and 34. With our highest students achieving between 39 and 44 points in the same period.

In 2024 our NCBIS IBDP students performed above their expected end point when considering their start point. Our GL Assessment Value Added Score was +0.22. Meaning that 22% of the grades achieved are one grade higher than expected from the student start point.

Once again we have students achieving the highest grades, with the highest outcome being 44 points out of a maximum of 45.

Our headline measures are in line with global averages. This is a positive achievement for our cohorts that start their IBDP with lower starting points than the global average – as an inclusive school, currently we do not have entry requirements.

Congratulations to the 2024 cohort on their own personal over achievement.

A Level

Taken by students in Year 13

The A Level (Advanced Level) qualification is an internationally recognised program that provides students with in-depth subject expertise and critical skills, serving as a key pathway to top universities around the world. At NCBIS, we offer A Level exams throughPearson Edexcel, ensuring students benefit from a rigorous and globally respected curriculum. These exams are taken over two years, allowing students to focus on a smaller number of subjects that align with their interests and future academic or career plans.

The A Level grading system uses grades from A to E*, with A* representing the highest level of achievement. Assessment is primarily through final examinations, though some subjects may include coursework to evaluate practical skills and knowledge.

Our A Level program challenges students to think independently, engage critically with complex ideas, and apply their learning to real-world contexts. It provides students not only with academic depth but also with essential problem-solving, analytical, and time-management skills, ensuring they are well-prepared for success at university and beyond.
