Music & Drama

Ordinarily Extraordinary

Music is the beating heart of our school. We are very proud of our musical tradition of providing curriculum music lessons from Nursery school upwards and are constantly looking for new & inspiring learning opportunities both inside & outside of the classroom. We strongly believe in the educational & social benefits of learning music and do everything we can to enable any student who wishes to do so to become involved irrespective of experience.

Students at NCBIS may opt for Edexcel Music GCSE, A Level or IBDP. All courses include studying music in context, musical analysis, developing music theory, composition & performance.

Academic Music

The music department is a happy and vibrant place. We have a superb team of dedicated teaching staff who are diverse in age & career background. Some have dedicated their lives to teaching music, while others are very high calibre musicians who hold posts at the Cairo Symphony & Philharmonic orchestra.
Our students are very receptive, enthusiastic & polite, and they relish the broad opportunities that are available to them at NCBIS.

Teaching music at NCBIS

NCBIS is a singing school. We believe that singing is the quickest & most direct way for students to learn & internalise music. It is very much a part of the NCBIS community & vital for having a good ear. We offer a series of choirs across primary and secondary schools which are our most popular ECAs. To date our choir has an impressive record of engagements. We also host a weekly parent choir rehearsal which is well attended & who perform regularly.

For those who wish to have singing lessons, we offer a Pop & Classical specialist. We are proud when our students wish to continue their vocal training at university.

NCBIS student Lana Ben Halim won first place at the most prestigious music competition in the Middle East – The Young Musician of the Golf.

Singing

Traditionally our school holds an annual Rockfest competition which is open to all students. We offer many performance opportunities & encourage our students to participate in local competitions. Our school bands are a highlight at many school events throughout the academic year.

Band Work

Our whole school orchestra welcomes all students no matter their level & we are proud to accommodate all levels of musicianship and provide our students with a platform to experience participating in a large ensemble. We feel that working collaboratively with an orchestra is an incredibly important part of instrumental training. Our school orchestra are seen to perform at all of our main school events.
